Archaeological research in the Jesolo area began in the last century, in the area of the Ancient Walls. In fact, the ruins of buildings dating back to the Middle Ages remained in this area: the cathedral of S. Maria Assunta and the church of S. Mauro. Since the early 1960s the Municipality of Jesolo promoted some excavation activities to find out if these ruins concealed other remains and testimonies of the past. But only in recent years, from 2011 to today, has the municipality given a decisive impulse to research with an archaeological project of excavation and enhancement of the entire area of the ancient town, in collaboration with the Ca'Foscari University of Venice and the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Municipality of Venice and the Lagoon.
